The privileged relations and friendly ties that Mauritius and France share were at the core of discussions during a meeting the Ambassador for Regional Cooperation in the Indian Ocean Zone, Mr Jean-Claude Brunet, had with the Prime Minister, Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth on Friday 12 May 2023 at the New Treasury Building in Port-Louis.
In a statement after the meeting, Ambassador Brunet spoke of the existing strong partnership that prevails between Mauritius and France in various spheres such as the economy, tourism and culture. He remarked that French investors consider Mauritius as an attractive business destination that offers favourable conditions for doing business and investing.
Furthermore, he observed that Mauritius shares a close relationship with Reunion Island as well, most particularly in the tourism sector.
Speaking about the Indian Ocean Commission, he underlined the ambitious agenda of Mauritius regarding its advocacy for maritime security, and laid emphasis on the need for solidarity regarding this matter among the Member States.
Ambassador Brunet also pointed out that discussions with the Prime Minister pertained to the environmental cause, namely the need to modify the financial instruments to better respond to the needs of the Indian Ocean island nations that are most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
This issue will be at the forefront of the agenda during the Summit that will be held on 22 and 23 June 2023 in Paris, to which the honourable presence of the Prime Minister Jugnauth has been requested, he added.
