2025 will be a year of hope and reconstruction, PM says in his message to the Nation

Extending new year greetings to citizens, in a televised message to the Nation on 1st January 2025, the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, stated that 2025 will be a year of hope and reconstruction.
Dr Ramgoolam expressed his thanks to the population for the remarkable victory during the 2024 general election and urged everyone to maintain a sense of unity, and patriotism referring to words in the National Anthem “as one people, as one Nation, in peace, justice and liberty’’.
The Prime Minister indicated that Government has at the core of its agenda to reconstruct and transform the country. He added that the Government Programme will be presented shortly. Dr Ramgoolam outlined Government’s key priority to redress the economy, adding
that it will be based on a policy of truth and transparency.
He underlined that Government has already embarked on its mission to deliver its set targets. He recalled that 90% of the Mauritian workforce have received their special 14th month bonus, the price of petroleum has decreased and the re-registration of SIM cards has been revoked.
The Prime Minister, moreover, emphasised on several substantial measures Government will implement to reconstruct the country. These include, the renegotiation of the deal over the future of Diego Garcia and Chagos Islands and the revision of Cambridge School Certificate with a minimum of three credits. Speaking about drug trafficking, Dr Ramgoolam highlighted that Government will have a zero-tolerance policy towaards it and he also signified his intent to put an end to corruption in the country.
The Prime Minister also had a special thought for the Agaleans after the passage of the cyclone Chido and noted that Government is doing its best to bring life to normalcy on the island.
