A site visit was organised by the Ministry of Housing and Land Use Planning, today in Camp Fouquereaux, to take stock of future works to be undertaken for the construction of the headquarters of the Arabic Speaking Union.
The Deputy Prime Minister (DPM), Minister of Housing and Land Use Planning, Minister of Tourism, Mr Louis Steven Obeegadoo; the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Local Government and Disaster Risk Management, Dr Mohammad Anwar Husnoo; the President of the Arabic Speaking Union, Mr Mohammud Goolam; and Officers of the Ministry of Housing and Land Use Planning were present on this occasion.
In a statement, DPM Obeegadoo highlighted that this site at Camp Fouquereaux has been identified and leased to the Arabic Speaking Union. Likewise, he reminded, other sites have also been allocated for other Speaking Unions and Cultural Centres for the construction of their respective headquarters and carry out activities in line with their mission.
For his part, Mr Goolam indicated that the Arabic Speaking Union ambitions to construct three conference centres, a library and teaching classes, amongst others, on this plot of land of 4,220 square metres. These facilities, he stated, aim at promoting the Arabic culture and language in Mauritius and will be accessible to the whole population.
