The High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, Mrs K. Nandini Singla, has completed her four-year tenure in Mauritius and will be leaving the country shortly. In this context, a farewell reception was organised by the High Commission of India in Ebene as a sign of appreciation for her contribution during the last few years.
Several personalities including the Vice-President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Marie Cyril Eddy Boissézon, were present at the reception.
Speaking at the event, Mrs Singla expressed appreciation to the Government and people of Mauritius with regard to her tenure in the country, highlighting the unique, special, time-tested and longstanding relationship that exists between India and Mauritius, both valuing democracy, diversity, peace and prosperity.
The Indian High Commissioner seized the opportunity to congratulate the newly elected Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam while reiterating the support of the Government of India to Mauritius to further strengthen the bilateral relationship.
Mrs Singla elaborated on the various fronts of collaboration between India and Mauritius ranging from developmental, educational to cultural projects. Regarding projects in the pipeline, she stated that India will be providing Mauritius with 100 eco-friendly electric buses. Other upcoming projects include a new Civil Service College to be inaugurated soon in Moka, a new Area Health Centre in Cap Malheureux, and a new national library and archives library in Moka, she indicated.
Indian High Commissioner Singla also dwelt on India’s extension of the first-ever rupee-denominated line of credit to Mauritius for the replacement of 100 km water pipelines. She pointed out that India will continue to facilitate negotiations for Mauritius’s claim for sovereignty over Chagos Archipelago.
She dwelt on several projects accomplished during her tenure including the CECPA Agreement, India’s first free trade agreement in Africa; launch of RuPay Cards and UPI services; setting up of Indian Business Council; setting up of new Pan-African Exchange; and the implementation of social housing and solar projects.
