Mauritius and Australia to reinforce collaboration in education sector

The High Commissioner of Australia, Mrs Kate Chamley, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Education and Human Resource, Dr Mahend Gungapersad, yesterday in Phoenix.

In a statement, the Minister highlighted that the meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm Mauritius’s collaboration with Australia. Discussions focused on early childhood education, Technical and Vocational Education and Training as well as capacity-building programmes in the education sector.

Dr Gungapersad also expressed his desire to work more closely with Australia so as to position Mauritius as the preferred education hub in the region.

For her part, the Australian Ambassador described the meeting as warm and productive. She reaffirmed Australia’s support to Mauritius’s vision of becoming an international education hub and praised the partnerships already in place.

Speaking of Charles Telfair Education, which offers Australian-accredited courses in Mauritius, Mrs Chamley expressed pride in the increasing student enrolment. She further emphasised her commitment to fostering closer collaboration between the two countries in the education sector.
