Mauritius celebrates another centenaria

Mrs Sonmowtee Motaye, born on 5 September 1925, celebrated her 100th birthday, yesterday, at the Royal Ding Hall in D’Epinay during a ceremony organised by the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity.

The Member of Parliament, Mr Kaviraj Rookny, was present on the occasion.

To honour the centenarian, the Social Integration and Social Security Ministry presented Mrs Motaye with a flower bouquet; a centenarian medal; a certificate; a Digital Air Fryer; and a cheque of Rs 26,203.

Additionally, she received a cheque of Rs 10,000 from the National Solidarity Fund and a Special Telephone Service offered from the Mauritius Telecom.

Mrs Motaye, whose husband was a clothing merchant, has only one son. She now has two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The secret to her longevity can be attributed to her good eating habit, a disciplined lifestyle, and the care and attention of her family.
