Prime Minister Ramgoolam signs Condolence Book following demise of former Indian Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, signed the Condolence Book opened in memory of former Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Dr Manmohan Singh, this afternoon, at the Indian High Commission in Ebène.
The former Prime Minister passed away on Thursday 26 December 2024 at the age of 92.
In a statement following the signing of the Condolence Book, Prime Minister Ramgoolam said that it was a sad day for both India and Mauritius adding that the former Prime Minister was very close to Mauritius and has helped the country in the past.
The Prime Minister recalled his meetings with Dr Manmohan Singh, both as Leader of the Opposition and Prime Minister.
Highlighting the commitments of Late Dr Manmohan Singh to Mauritius, Prime Minister Ramgoolam spoke of the latter’s engagement towards the Double Taxation Avoidance Treaty and his intervention with Mangalore Refinery for Mauritius to get access to petroleum products at a guaranteed and reasonable price.
Prime Minister Ramgoolam also extended his message of condolence to the bereaved family.
Dr Manmohan Singh became the Prime Minister of India on 22 May 2004 and served as Prime Minister till May 2009. He became Prime Minister for the second term from May 2009 to May 2014.
