The RCPL Alumni Association today hosted the 2023 edition of ‘Saturday Detention’ which is an annual event that brings together all former students of the Royal College of Port Louis. Hundreds of Óld Royals’ participated and the event was a huge success.

The day was marked by various activities such as a 7-a-side football tournament, a food court and a prize giving ceremony. Former students could also purchase a limited edition Alumni T-shirt. About 20 teams comprising of 10 players participated and Bitre FC was the grand winner, Bat R Lacol second and KTB ranking third. The winning team was awarded the Jay Gopaul Trophy, in remembrance and in tribute to former RCPL rector Jay Gopaul who recently passed away.
Food catering was provided by the one and only Rouben, who has been running the RCPL canteen for decades. Royalists also had the opportunity to taste the ice-cream, juice and ‘confi’ offered by the same sellers who have been trading there for years.
In a statement, the organising committee, under the leadership of Dilen Kistnen and Sooraj Jeetun have thanked all those who participated, making the event a success, including the rector Mr Suren Oodit, former rector Farhaad Tegally, the teaching and non-teachinfg staff, the First-Aiders and the police.
