The Junior Minister of Finance, Mr Dhaneshwar Damry, held a pre-budget consultative meeting with representatives from various livestock breeders’ associations and cooperatives, this afternoon, in Port Louis.
Talks aimed at addressing key challenges within the livestock sector with the objective of strengthening the country’s food security.
In a statement following the meeting, Mr Damry highlighted the importance of the livestock industry as a crucial part of the broader goal of food self-sufficiency, affirming that Government placed significant value on the sector.
Among the key points raised were proposals for enhancing the efficiency within the livestock industry by reducing bureaucratic red tape for greater effectiveness, reviewing the supply and value chains along with maintaining high standards of food quality, and improving the relevant infrastructure, including water supply.
The Junior Minister affirmed that the upcoming budget would strive to reflect these goals while taking into account the current financial situation.
