Shiv Khera meets Prime Minister Ramgoolam

Mr Shiv Khera, renowned for his work in leadership development and character building, met the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, today during a courtesy call at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.

Mr Khera is a motivational speaker, best selling author and leadership coach.

In a statement, Mr Khera underscored the importance of character building, integrity and responsible leadership in national development. “Companies and countries are not built on skills, they are built on character,” he said, noting that character building is essential to effective leadership and good governance. He said the Prime Minister shared the view that character building is key.

Referring to Singapore’s development, Mr Khera said the country’s transformation demonstrated the importance of integrity, responsible leadership and a commitment to national prosperity.

Drawing on his experience in corporate training, he underscored the relevance of instilling values from an early age. He spoke about his programme, PrepareThem, Don’t Repair Them, which advocates character development and essential life skills.

He further identified three key competencies to succeed in a rapidly changing world namely, people skills, persuasion skills and prioritisation skills. While acknowledging the growing importance of technology and technical expertise, he maintained that the ability to build relationships, communicate effectively and distinguish between urgent and important matters are fundamental to personal and professional success.

In his message to young people, Mr Khera stressed the importance of integrity, communication, teamwork and a positive attitude, noting that employers increasingly value these qualities alongside technical skills.

He also urged the youth to go beyond the minimum requirements of their jobs and responsibilities towards a principle of consistently giving more than one receives, whether in one’s family, organisation, workplace or country.

Mr Khera noted that adopting such an approach, underpinned by strong character and a commitment to excellence, could help individuals stand out professionally while contributing meaningfully to society and national development.
