A Memorial Lecture was organised by the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage, yesterday, at the Paul Octave Wiéhé Auditorium in Réduit, in the context of the 93rd Birth Anniversary of late Sir Anerood Jugnauth (SAJ), GCSK, KCMG, QC, PC, former Prime Minister and former President of the Republic of Mauritius, who passed away on 03 June 2021 at the age of 91.
The Professor in Sociology, Dr Ibrahim Alladin, gave the lecture which had as theme: SAJ – The Architect of the Republic. A first day cover on late SAJ was also launched by the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin, and the Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck, on this occasion.
The President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun; the Vice-President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Marie Cyril Eddy Boissézon; the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Housing and Land Use Planning, Minister of Tourism, Mr Louis Steven Obeegadoo; the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun; the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Local Government and Disaster Risk Management, Dr Mohammad Anwar Husnoo; other Ministers and Members of Parliament; the spouse of late SAJ, Lady Sarojini Jugnauth; as well as other personalities were also present.
During his lecture, Dr Alladin highlighted SAJ’s background, career and accomplishments, and dwelt on the emergence of SAJ as a Statesman. He further spoke about the ‘SAJ model of development’, which according to him, puts SAJ in a position where he could be studied by scholars.
