Mrs Peerboccus from Vallée des Prêtres celebrates her 100th birthday

amily and friends gathered, on Sunday 05 February 2023, to celebrate the 100th birthday of Mrs Haafiz Bibi Peerboccus at her residence in Vallée des Prêtres.
The Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Local Government, Disaster and Risk Management, Dr Mohammad Anwar Husnoo; the Parliamentary Private Secretary, Mrs Subashnee Luchmun Roy; and Members of Parliament, Mrs Joanne Tour and Mr Mohammad Salim Abbas Mamode; were present on the occasion.
To mark the occasion, the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity offered to Mrs Peerboccus a cheque of Rs 26,203; a bouquet; the centenarian medal; a certificate ; and a bed mattress. The National Solidarity Fund of the Ministry also gave her a cheque of Rs 10,000 while the Senior Citizen Council presented her with a gift.
Mrs Haafiz Bibi, also known as Kala Haafiz, was born at Lees Street in Curepipe. Her father was a butler and her mother a housewife. She comes from a family of nine children, namely five brothers and four sisters, she being the fourth child. All her siblings have passed away.
The centenarian got religiously married to Mr Golaup Ahmed in 1944. Her husband was a painter and she was a housewife. She has ten children, five sons and five daughters, 20 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Mrs Haafiz Bibi Peerboccus enjoys good health apart from old age weakness due to which she uses a wheelchair, and attributes her longevity to her faith in God.
