Paris 2024 Olympics Games: Three-day activity from 14 to 16 March will mark second edition of 2024 Week

In the context of the celebrations of the Paris 2024 Olympics Games, a three-day activity is being organised by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation in collaboration with the French Embassy to mark the second edition of the ‘Semaine 2024’ (2024 Week).

The Director of Sports of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Nagalingum Pillay Samoo, made this announcement, today, in the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of France to Mauritius, Mrs Florence Caussé-Tissier, during a press conference in Port Louis.

In a statement, the Director of Sports said that the 2024 Week is being held as part of the Terre de Jeux 2024 programme to further sensitise on the Olympic Games and sporting activities and will be celebrated in Mauritius through the organisation of several activities. He also indicated that the Ministry is working on a new structure for Horizon Paris 2024 which will better prepare the athletes for the competition.

For her part, Ambassador Caussé-Tissier stated that 14 March 2024 will mark the D-500 Paris 2024 Olympic Games. She underlined that the international 24-hour sporting relay which will pass through all continents and all time zones will enable the world to celebrate sports for 24 hours non-stop. More than 140 countries and some 15,000 participants are expected to take part in the relay, she said.

The Ambassador recalled that the 1st edition of the international relay was organised in March 2022 regrouping around 44 countries and 8,000 participants across the world. The second edition of the international relay, she underlined, will start in New Zealand and end in Polynésie française Tahiti. In Mauritius, the event will see the participation of around 700 persons from Blue Bay to Mahebourg over a stretch of 7 km while in Rodrigues, the departure will be at Camp du Roi Stadium to Plaine de Foot over a stretch of 5 km.

Other activities to be organised include workshops on healthy eating habits, a press conference on the impact of nutrition and sports health, the presentation of sports academy, and a roundtable, among others.
It is recalled that the Olympic Games 2024 will be held from 26 July to 11 August 2024 and will see the participation of some 200 nations and 10,000 athletes.
