The Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Home Affairs and External Communications, Minister of Finance, Minister for Rodrigues and Outer Islands, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, was present, this morning at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Plaine Magnien, to see off Ms Fateemah Dilmohamed, set to travel abroad for urgent surgery.
The young woman, whose leg was tragically amputated after a harrowing incident on an escalator at a commercial centre on Saturday 23 November 2024, would have to undergo a specialised procedure not available in the country to try and save her other leg.
The Prime Minister, accompanied by the Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Anil Kumar Bachoo, and other personalities, met with Ms Dilmohamed and her parents before the flight to the Republic of India for the specialised surgery.
Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam had intervened personally to ensure the patient received the urgent medical care needed abroad following the tragic accident. He stressed that time was of the essence for doctors to work and try saving the young woman’s remaining leg, and prevent further complications.
