The Minister of Education and Human Resource, Dr Mahend Gungapersad, chaired yesterday at the seat of his Ministry in Phoenix, meetings with representatives of the Federation of Union of Managers of Private Secondary Schools and the Unions of Secondary Educators, to discuss the various issues and challenges they are facing.
In a statement, the EducationMinister indicated that during the meeting, the representatives of the Federation of Union of Managers of Private Secondary Schools brought forth the numerous measures and
actions that they deem were not conducive to a thriving environment for the proper functioning of their schools. These, he deplored, have primarily impacted educators and learners.
As such, he emphasised, his Ministry will find alternatives in order toensure that Managers of private schools are empowered so that their
respective institution offers an adequate education to all its learners.
Dr Gungapersad also spoke about reviewing the way the disbursement of Governmental financial aid earmarked to Private Secondary Schools is carried out, in a bid to facilitate the activities of these institutions.
The Minister also reiterated Government’s will to ensure that each and every learner, regardless of his school, will be given the best conditions for his wholesome development, whilst assuring that all schools will be provided with the necessary equipment and resources for the resumption of classes in January 2025.
Speaking about the meeting held with the Unions of Secondary Educators, the Minister of Education and Human Resource underscored the importance of taking note of the concerns of educators. According to
him, educators are pivotal for the proper functioning of the educational system and contribute to tackle key issues such as school indiscipline, bullying, and teenage pregnancy.
Dr Gungapersad thus lauded their remarkable contribution to cater for the needs of all learners irrespective of challenges and lack of resources. He underlined that his Ministry will ensure that all the necessary arrangements are made to execute the School Readiness plan so that all school personnel and students are well equipped for the resumption of classes.
Besides, Minister Gungapersad pledged for an enhanced educational system that will ensure both academic success and personal growth and development of all learners.
