Insignia Ceremony 2023: President Roopun confers Awards to National Day Awardees

National awards were presented to National Day Awardees by the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, yesterday Friday 28 July 2023,during two insignia ceremonies held at the State House, Le Réduit.

The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth; the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun; Ministers; the first Lady, Mrs Sayukta Roopun; the spouse of the Prime Minister, Mrs Kobita Jugnauth; and other personalities also graced the Insignia award ceremony.

The National Award of the GRAND COMMANDER OF THE ORDER OF THE STAR AND KEY OF THE INDIAN OCEAN (GCSK) was conferred to Late Mr Joseph Charles Jacques Desiré BAISSAC (also known as Vaco BAISSAC) who was represented by Miss Isabelle BAISSAC for valuable contribution in the artistic field.

The National Awards were conferred to various personalities as follows:

GRAND OFFICER OF THE ORDER OF THE STAR AND KEY OF THE INDIAN OCEAN (GOSK)

• Mrs Hima Nalini MATADEEN for valuable contribution in the legal field;

• Mr Mohamed Abdul Kader MUSTOOFA for commendable and dedicated service at international level;

• Mrs Navamanee Ratna PATTEN (also known as Pramila Patten) represented by Me Irvin COLLENDAVELLOO for commendable contribution in the promotion of human rights at national, regional, and international levels; and

• Mr Gunness RAMDEWAR, O.S.K for commendable contribution in the legal field

COMMANDER OF THE ORDER OF THE STAR AND KEY OF THE INDIAN OCEAN (CSK)

• Prof Cyrus TABATABAY, represented by Mr Claude Alain BURNAND for significant contribution in the medical field

OFFICER OF THE ORDER OF THE STAR AND KEY OF THE INDIAN OCEAN (OSK)

• Mr Sewpoojuhun LALLBEEHARRY (also known as Gawtum) for contribution in social and cultural fields;

• Mr Hurryduth MEGNATH (also known as Sanjay) for contribution in field of education;

• Mr Edward Kelvyn NG WONG HING represented by Mr Georgy NG WONG HING for long and dedicated service in the education sector;

• Mrs Lata Mungesh PRAYAG for contribution in the social field; and

• Mr Sanjeev SOOKUN for contribution in the fields of education and social work.
