The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, received, this afternoon, the High Commissioner of the Republic of Seychelles to the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Claude Sylvestre Anthony Morel, at the New Treasury Building in Port-Louis.
In a statement following the meeting, High Commissioner Morel pointed out that discussions focused on consolidating relations between both Seychelles and Mauritius in sectors of mutual interests at both regional and international front adding that both countries are linked owing to their proximity and geography.
Issues such as maritime connectivity aiming to enhance the distribution of commodities at a lower tariff in the region was also discussed, he added. Mr Morel further spoke of the candidature of Mauritius for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council 2025.
He also dwelt on the next Mauritius-Seychelles Joint Commission which will be held in Seychelles in April 2023 which aims to take stock of the progress made so far as regards the joint management of the continental shelf and to come up with a roadmap for the next three to four years.
Furthermore, High Commissioner Morel reiterated his support to Mauritius with regard to the sovereignty of the Chagos archipelago.
It is to be noted that the High Commissioner of Seychelles presented his credentials, on 06 February 2023, to the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun.
