PM inaugurates Multipurpose Hall and Sports Complex at Dagotière villagel

The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, proceeded with the inauguration of a multipurpose hall and sports complex at Dagotière village, this afternoon. The project to the tune of Rs 23 million, aims to cater to the needs and welfare of the inhabitants of the region as well as to provide the senior citizens and the youth with a suitable place for leisure activities.

The Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, Member of Parliament, Mr Yogida Sawmynaden, the Chairperson of the District Council of Moka, Mr Sudhirchandra Soonarane and other personalities were also present at the launching ceremony.
In his statement, the Prime Minister highlighted that this new infrastructure which comprises a children’s garden, a petanque ground, a mini soccer field, a volleyball pitch and a parking will enhance the quality of life of the inhabitants and the people in the region.

He also emphasised on the need for each and everyone to practice sports and keep the youth away from social ills such as consumption of drugs, alcohol, and smoking. These social ills, he underlined, have a nefarious effect on the person, his family and his surroundings.

The Prime Minister added that in view to fight drug trafficking in the country and ensure the safety of the citizens, the Commission of Inquiry on Drug Trafficking was introduced. He reiterated the determination of Government in its relentless fight against drug trafficking and called on the population to join hands in this combat.

Prime Minister Jugnauth, moreover, indicated that in the context of the celebrations of the 55th Independence of Mauritius, Government came up with a key measure, that is, the introduction of free education for children of the pre-primary school as from January 2024. Education is key to success and Government will do its best possible to ensure that every child get access to quality education, he affirmed.

Prime Minister Jugnauth also dwelt on the impact and Governmental measures put in place in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine-Russian crisis. He stated that Government has as top most priority the welfare of the citizens and will continue to strive to enhance the quality of life of the citizens. He spoke of several developmental projects across the island to meet to the needs of the population while ensuring the progress of the country.

For her part, Mrs Dookun-Luchoomun, stated that the new hall will enable social gatherings of the youth as well as the elderly, which according to her is primordial to promote healthy living and unity in the society. She underlined that Government has come up with a series of measures with regard to education, health and transport for the well-being of every citizen and to help the nation prosper.

Mr Sawmynaden stated that Government will continue to work for the welfare of the citizens adding that several projects are in the pipeline. The hall, he underscored, is proof of Government’s commitment to ensure a better standard of living for the population as well as to develop the country and take it to greater heights at both national and international level.

As for Mr Soonarane, he indicated that the hall is a modern one, equipped with all sports amenities to benefit the inhabitants of the region in line with Government’s vision to encourage the population practice sports. He called on the inhabitants to avail of the facilities and ensure to keep the hall clean and in the best conditions.
